The Astrology of Human Potential

Horoscope wheel chart

To everything there is a season, and a time to every  purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to reap;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance…
                                                     Ecclesiastes 3:1-4

But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: you are of more value than many sparrows.
                                                      Luke 12:7

“Know Thyself.”

“The function of mythological symbols is to give you a sense of, Aha! Yes. I know what it is, it’s myself.”                        –  Joseph Campbell

Astrology is a language that comes to us from astronomy and science as well as ancient civilizations with their mythologies and mystery schools traditions.  It is a language of the mind and spirit that connects us to our inner feelings and observations of cycles of time and the changing of the seasons.

Western Astrology is a language of symbols, hieroglyphs and mythology that originated as a holistic spiritual science in Egypt and was reinterpreted into the more widely-known Greek and Roman mythological traditions. But the idea of Sun signs – that a person born on March 12 is a “Pisces” or an August 10th birthday is a “Leo” – is only a distorted fraction of the whole body of knowledge.  Astrology in its truest form involves detailed calculations of the positions of the planets and constellations according to the time, place and date of a person’s birth.  Along with the ability to analyze the mathematical movements of the Cosmos, it takes many years of study, practice and observation to make constructive, meaningful and intuitive interpretations that are relevant in a practical way to an individual person’s life experience.

We are living in extraordinary times, in an era that was prophesized in the Bible and ancient Mayan and Aztec astrological calendars, as well as in Hopi and other First Nations spiritual traditions.  In Western astrology we are living in the dawn of the “Age of Aquarius” – an age marked by knowledge, science, technology, innovation, social change and humanitarian vision.  We are living in an age where the vast majority of people in developed nations walk around with pocket computers that have access to the entire history of human knowledge at one’s fingertips.  Yet despite this freedom and access to knowledge, traditional families are falling apart, racial and cultural conflicts are accelerating and old economic, political and social orders are breaking down. It often seems that our technological, social and generational changes are outstripping our abilities to adjust to them.

My perspectives on astrology come from more than 40 years of experience of following various spiritual paths and studying the celestial mechanics for casting birth charts for the time, place and date of an individual’s birth. My knowledge is informed by world travel to Africa, Asia and Europe, by studies in Theosophy, Kabala, Buddhism, Taoism, Zen and the I-Ching.  My knowledge is also informed by the new dynamic models of modern quantum physics and the amazing breakthroughs of Wilhelm Reich’s theories and experiments with Orgone, healing the etheric and emotional bodies through Bach flower essences, yoga and meditation, and Alfred Korzbyski’s seminal work on General Semantics. Finally, my work is informed by my experience as a writer and a journalist, and as someone who has encountered people from many walks of life and different races, ethnicities, cultures and economic classes.

Thank you for visiting my web site. It is my hope that you will find some knowledge of value here, and that I may perhaps in some way, large or small, aid you on your spiritual journey of awakening.
